Sports Injury Physiotherapy

Sports Injury / Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human function and movement and maximising potential. It uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being taking account of variations in health status. It is science-based, committed to extending, applying, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs its practice and delivery. The above definition is taken from CSP curriculum framework (January 2002).

Physiotherapy can help with any bone, joint or muscle discomfort. Some common conditions treated are:

  • Neck and back pain.
  • Whiplash
  • Stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Sports injuries
  • Rehabilitation pre/post orthopaedic surgery
  • Work related injury

How can a Physiotherapist help me?
A Physiotherapist can help you achieve your highest level of physical functioning (at any stage of life) by providing you with a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs.

Depending upon your complaint a Physiotherapist may need to massage, mobilize, or use electrotherapy equipment to aid with your condition. Exercises may be prescribed to stretch, strengthen or to mobilize. It may be necessary for a joint to be protected with specific strapping or taping. A treatment may also include retraining faulty movement patterns (biomechanical evaluation).

What do I wear for my appointment?
It is best to wear loose fitting clothing so that the Physiotherapist can have access to the area which is causing the complaint.

Do you deal with Sports Injuries?
Yes,

What can I expect from my first appointment?
You can expect a detailed health history, a detailed assessment of the particular area of concern, a personalised treatment plan.

How long will the appointment take?
The initial assessment will take 1 hour and subsequent visits will last 30 minutes.

Do I need a referral?
No, our physiotherapist can see you with or without a referral from your GP.
